Our Story
Coldwell Banker Commercial S.A. owned by Charles W. Kelly, MAI was originally franchised in 1998 by
Steve Stringer. Mr. Kelly started in commercial real estate as an appraiser in Kansas City in 1973.
He moved to Texas in 1984, to work at Merrill Lynch’s Commercial Real
Estate
Advisory Group and later with the Institutional Investment Banking Division. Charlie operated his
own appraisal and advisory company for 10 year and then joined Coldwell Banker Commercial in 1998.
Mr. Stringer sold Coldwell Banker Paula Stringer Residential in 2000 and in 2003 he agreed to sell
Charlie the Coldwell Banker Commercial S.A. entity.
For most of its 100-year history, Coldwell Banker Commercial offered both commercial and residential
real estate services. But in 1981, Sears, Roebuck & Co. purchased Coldwell Banker Commercial and,
eight years later, sold the commercial side to a group of employees and investors now known as CB
Richard Ellis. At that point, the residential group entered into a "non-compete" agreement that
prohibited Coldwell Banker from providing commercial real estate services for a period of five years,
ending in 1996. Coldwell Banker Commercial, as part of the Parsippany, N.J.-based
Cendant Corp (now REALOGY),
re-entered the market in 1997, and has since grown to over 450 offices with nearly
5,000 agents.
